What is agentic AI, and how is it different from a chatbot?

A chatbot answers a question. An agentic AI system does the work. Agentic AI can take a goal, break it into steps, use tools and data, and complete a task with little or no supervision. For a business that's the difference between AI that helps a person work faster and AI that handles a process end to end. Most businesses are still on the chatbot side. We help them get to the work.

We've tried AI tools and they didn't stick. Why would this be different?

Because most AI adoption fails for organisational reasons, not technical ones. Tools get rolled out before the business is ready, the team doesn't understand how their work changes, there's no governance, and the investment is wasted. We start with readiness rather than technology. Leadership capability, governance, and cultural readiness first, then AI where it genuinely creates value.

Do we need to be a tech company for this to be worth it?

No. Most of our AI work is with ordinary businesses that have real processes worth automating, not tech firms. If your team spends hours on repetitive work, your reporting is manual, or knowledge lives in people's heads, there's usually value to be found. Hayden built AI governance and digital platform foundations at ImpactLab, a measurement business, not a tech startup.

Which AI tools or platforms do you use?

We're technology-agnostic, so we recommend what's right for your business rather than the latest trend. Sometimes that's custom agentic AI, sometimes it's simpler applied generative AI, and sometimes the honest answer is that a process needs fixing before any AI touches it. We're not reselling a platform, so the advice is about what will actually work in your organisation.

Is this safe? How do you handle AI governance and risk?

Governance is built in from the start, not bolted on after. We establish responsible AI policy, ethical frameworks, and the guardrails a business needs to use AI properly, before deploying anything. Hayden has built AI governance frameworks at board level, so this comes from real experience of what a leadership team and a board need to be comfortable.

Who is the agentic AI service for, and how long does it take?

It suits businesses that are past experimenting and ready to put AI to real work, from scaling startups through to established SMEs and larger teams that want transformation done properly. Most engagements run at least 3 to 6 months, because building readiness and then deploying something that lasts takes more than a workshop.
